Downtown’s Shreveport Aquarium is swimming right along. Jon Whitehead, the founding partner of the Planet Aqua Group which owns the aquarium, tells us the Destiny Garcia has been promoted to aquarium General Manager. Garcia, who has been at the facility since 2018 takes over from Jason Coffel, who is leaving to focus on his growing entertainment business. Whitehead says in spite of all the challenges of 2020, the aquarium’s revenue and numbers were strong. September 2020 saw a 30% increase over 2019, October a huge 104% increase over the same time one year ago, November’s increase was up 28% and December ended the year on a great note with a 101% increase. Much of the credit likely goes to new programming and two popular Halloween and Holiday interactive exhibits, which proved to be huge hits.
The aquarium is open every day and features shark feedings, interactive stingray and jellyfish exhibits, a Red River Treasure Chute, which allows you to pan for gold and other treasures and more. Plan your aquarium fun here.
